An Athens man is facing a burglary change following the theft of seven guns from a local pawn shop, and detectives are still looking for six of the guns, an official said.

Athens police arrested Michael Paul Coughlin, 28, of 302 Hoffman St., Unit B, on Friday on a charge of third-degree burglary, said Capt. Trevor Harris.

He said Coughlin broke into a store on U.S. 31 before sunrise Friday morning and stole seven handguns. Coughlin had one of the guns in his possession and tried to toss it as he was being taken into custody, Harris said.

Athens detectives continue the search for the six remaining firearms, he said.

Anyone who bought or received a firearm from Coughlin is asked to contact Detective Jonathan Caldwell at 256-233-8700.
