Athens and Limestone County recently released holiday closings and garbage schedules for the upcoming Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

City offices will be closed Monday, Dec. 25, Tuesday, Dec. 26, and Monday, Jan. 1.

The sanitation schedule is as follows:

• No recycling pickup Monday, Dec. 25.

• Recycling normally scheduled for Monday will be collected Tuesday, Dec. 26.

• Residential garbage and bulk trash normally scheduled for Tuesday will be collected Wednesday, Dec. 27.

• Residential garbage and bulk trash normally scheduled for Wednesday will be collected Thursday, Dec. 28.

• Residential garbage and bulk trash normally scheduled for Thursday will be collected Friday, Dec. 29.

• Residential garbage and bulk trash normally scheduled for Friday will be collected Saturday, Dec. 30.

• Recycling collection will run as scheduled Jan. 1.

Limestone County

Limestone County offices will also be closed Monday, Dec. 25, Tuesday, Dec. 26, and Monday, Jan. 1.

Garbage pickup will run a day later than scheduled on the weeks of both Christmas and New Year’s Day. For example, if your garbage pickup is Monday, it will be picked up Tuesday.

Because of an increased amount of garbage, trucks will run earlier than normal. Officials ask residents to put garbage out the night before.
