Architects for the proposed new Athens recreation center will unveil their plans before the City Council meeting Monday.
The 30-minute work session with architects from Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood begins at 3:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall at 200 W. Hobbs St. The meeting is open to the public.

City officials hope the council will agree to build a new recreation center on land next to the existing recreation center at the Sportsplex off U.S. 31. The existing recreation center is 40-plus years old and too small for the growing population, Mayor Ronnie Marks has said.
City Council members will likely ask questions about the plan during the work session Monday. They have not seen the plans or a cost estimate and therefore have not voted to approve a new recreation center.
The council’s regular pre-meeting work session will follow the architects’ presentation at 4:30 p.m. Their regular council meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Monday’s agenda
The following items are on the regular meeting agenda:
• Public hearing to take comments concerning the proposed zoning approval for the sale of alcohol by Jay Raghu Inc.;
