A teenager practicing Sunday at a rodeo arena in eastern Limestone County was injured by a bull and was flown to Huntsville Hospital for treatment, an official said.

Joey Boyd, chief of the East Limestone Volunteer Fire Department, said people were practicing roping and riding at the rodeo arena in the 20000 block of Turner Lane when the teenage bull rider was thrown over the head of the bull.

“He struck the bull’s horns, which had been cut but were still there,” Boyd said.

Although the horns did not penetrate the teenager’s skin, it may have caused internal injury, so the he was taken by MedFlight to the hospital, Boyd said.

He said an East medic made that determination based on a drop in blood pressure and low respirations.

Boyd did not know the teenager’s name, so his condition was not available from the hospital.
