Athens boys overturn deficit to grab victory

Athens overcame a 12-point deficit heading into the fourth quarter and rallied to a 53-48 win over Austin Friday.
The Golden Eagles, which improved to 4-1 with the win, trailed by as many as 14 points in the second quarter and was down 42-30 entering the final period.
Athens outscored Austin 23-6 in the fourth quarter to roar back for the victory. Cameron Turner led Athens with 15 points while Marqueze Bone added 10.
Fabian Bell finished with a game-high 25 points for Austin (2-5). Braxton Holland tallied 11.
The Golden Eagles will host Decatur tonight at 7:30 p.m.
Austin girls 45, Athens 42
Athens held a halftime lead over undefeated Austin, but couldn’t make it stand up in the second half, as the Black Bears rallied for a 45-42 win over the Golden Eagles.
The game was tied 14-14 after one quarter, but Athens pulled away in the second quarter to take a 27-23 lead into the locker room.
However, Athens went cold from the floor in the third quarter, scoring just four points, as Austin came back to tie the score at 31 after three quarters. The Bears then outscored Athens 14-11 in the final period to take the victory.
Alexis Woods led Athens (6-3) with 17 points, but no other Golden Eagles player scored more than six. Austin (7-0) was led by Whitney Watkins with 20 points and Bri Hodges with 12.
Clements boys 80, Ardmore 58
Austin Harvell scored 22 points to lead Clements to a big win over Ardmore. Lucas Bailey added 18 points, seven assists and three steals for the Colts while Kaleb Fletcher had 12 points and eight rebounds.
Shane Starnes also contributed to the winning cause with 11 points while Parker Hand tallied nine points and collected seven rebounds. Clements improved its record to 4-4 on the season.
Ardmore girls 44, Clements 43
In a game that was tight throughout, Ardmore made a few more plays down the stretch to escape with a one-point victory over Clements. The Tigers led 16-13 after one quarter, but Clements fought back to take a 23-21 halftime lead.
Ardmore came back and tied the game at 33 going into the final quarter, but the Colts outscored the Tigers 11-10 in the final period to take the victory.
Ardmore’s Madison Lewis led all scorers with 21 points while Chesney Widner added 10 for the Tigers. Clements was led by Rilee Gilliam with nine points while Abby Craig and Emrey McGill both scored eight.
Tanner girls 80, Hatton 58
Tanner got a huge game from Nahriyah Timmons to improve to 5-2 on the season with a 22-point win over Hatton.
Timmons scored 31 points for the Rattlers while Ikia Mitchell added 18. Nautica Noble also scored in double figures, chipping in with 10 points.
