Decatur Police: Elkmont man bought gun with counterfeit money

An Elkmont man was arrested Thursday after he purchased a handgun with counterfeit money, Decatur Police said.
According to a press release from the department, 26-year-old Chad Everett Malone, of 20844 Harris Road, met the victim in the parking lot of Hardee’s on Sixth Avenue in Decatur. Malone gave the victim money in exchange for the gun, but the victim later realized it was counterfeit.

The victim, a resident of Hartselle, then called the Decatur Police Department and filed a report. Arrest warrants were issued for Malone, and he was located by the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office and transported to the Decatur Police Department where he was interviewed by a detective.
Malone was subsequently charged with first-degree position of a forged instrument and second-degree theft of property. He was transferred to the Morgan County Jail where bond was set at $7,500.
