SELMA, Ala. (AP) — A missing Alabama woman was found shot to death in the trunk of her car and police say her ex-husband was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Al.com reports Selma Police Chief Spencer Collier identified the victim as 35-year-old Mary Elizabeth Timmons Scott, of Selma, who was reported missing Monday. She had a gunshot wound to the head and was found less than a half-mile from her home.
Family reported Mary Scott and her two young daughters missing to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators were notified Tuesday that the girls were safe with a relative in Birmingham. Later that morning, the body of 63-year-old Greg Scott, of Selma, was found.
Collier says the couple was divorced, but had been battling over custody of the children.
