Ardmore girls win first game of home tournament

Ardmore got off to a great start in the girls side of the Ardmore Thanksgiving Tournament using a quick start and suffocating defense to easily defeat Lindsay Lane Christian 61-28.
The Tigers scored 16 points in each of the first two quarters to take a 32-14 halftime lead and continued to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring the Lions 22-7 to put the game completely out of reach.
Chesney Widner led Ardmore with 19 points, including hitting three 3-pointers, while Madison Lewis added 18 points, hitting four 3-pointers.
Lindsay Lane was led by Audra Putman with 13 points, while Madelyn Dizon added eight.
Ardmore played Decatur Heritage in the second round of the tournament Tuesday evening. The results of that game were too late for The News Courier’s press time.
Brooks boys 54, Ardmore 46
The Ardmore boys got off to a sluggish start and couldn’t recover in an 8-point loss to Brooks in the first game of the Ardmore Thanksgiving Tournament.
The game was really decided in the second quarter, when Brooks outscored Ardmore 18-6 to take a 30-13 halftime lead.
Ardmore battled back in the second half and cut the lead to 36-27 after three quarters. However, the deficit was too much to overcome.
Eight different players scored for Ardmore, but no player scored in double figures. Garrett Duskin and Waymon Perry both scored seven points to lead the Tigers while Blake Wallace, Matthew Eckstein and Jacob Reed all added six.
Dusty Quillen led Brooks with 16 points, while Clay Miller tallied 14.
Clements boys 56, Fayetteville City (Tennessee) 49
Clements got a big offensive fourth quarter and some solid defense to defeat an athletic Fayetteville City team on Monday night.
The Colts had just 36 points through three quarters but exploded for 20 points in the fourth to take the 7-point victory.
Austin Harvell led the way with 18 points, while Lucas Bailey added 13 and Kaleb Fletcher chipped in with nine.
Clements plays Brooks at 9:15 a.m. today in the semifinals of the tournament.
Fayetteville City (Tenn.) girls 40, West Limestone 35
West Limestone found points from just three players in a 5-point loss to Fayetteville City in the first round of the Ardmore Thanksgiving Tournament.
Cassidy Winter led the Wildcats with 24 points but was just 7-of-14 from the free-throw line, which proved to be a huge factor in the game.
The only other Wildcat players who tallied in the scoring column were Sarah Rose with six points and Riley Fisk with five.
