A Limestone County man was killed Saturday evening after being struck by a car on Alabama 99 near Easter Ferry Road, an official said.

Limestone County Coroner Mike West said 74-year-old Cordell Barnett was crossing the road after checking his mail when he was struck by a red compact car traveling east.

The call came into Limestone County E-911 at about 5:07 p.m. West said Barnett died at the scene.

The occupants of the vehicle were transported by Athens EMS to Athens-Limestone Hospital with not life-threatening injuries.

State troopers are investigating.
