A 26-year-old Athens woman whose 2-year-old son swallowed a bag of methamphetamine has been charged with chemical endangerment of a child, records show.

Adrienne Louise Lockard, 26, of 11850 Snake Road, was arrested on the charge this week following an investigation by the Limestone County Department of Human Resources.

A DHR caseworker told Limestone County Sheriff’s Investigator Jamie King the boy “had gotten ahold of a bag of methamphetamine and consumed it.” She also showed King a photograph of the boy. In his incident report, King said the photo showed the boy “wrapped in a towel in the fetal position. His pupils are heavily dilated as he is high on methamphetamine.”

The boy tested positive for meth.

The caseworker also supplied King with a text message conversation that involved Lockard concerning the incident.

Lockard was released from the Limestone County Jail after posting a $5,000 bond.

Her son is in the custody of an aunt.

In Alabama, chemical endangerment of a child is a Class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison even if no harm comes to the child. If the child is harmed, the accused could be formally charged by the grand jury with a higher level felony.
