- The East Limestone Band stands in front of their band trailer after conducting a thorough inventory of its contents.
Early Wednesday morning, East Limestone band mom Pam Stapleton climbed on top of a picnic table to get a better view of the band’s trailer as it rolled up to the school. The 22-foot trailer containing an estimated $250,000 worth of equipment had been through quite an ordeal in Birmingham over the weekend, having been stolen and recovered within a 24-hour period.
“You could see the tension on the students’ faces as they approached the trailer,” Stapleton said. “But it quickly turned to joy and relief as one by one they retrieved saxophones, flutes, clarinets and sousaphones.”

Once the band completed the inventory, they were able to account for every single musical instrument and piece of band equipment that had been on the trailer. A recently purchased generator valued at $3,000 was the only missing item.
Ninth-grade flute player Miranda Haynes was so happy when they discovered all of the instruments were safe and sound, she almost cried.
Despite the fact the trailer was recovered, the band has still suffered a serious financial blow.
“We are waiting on the insurance adjuster, and we also have to verify that there was no damage to the trailer, so I am afraid to guess how much this has cost us,” Stapleton said.
She hopes the majority of the losses will be covered by money collected on the band’s YouCaring page and through other fundraisers, like the one they had Thursday at Salsaritas in Madison.
