Clements had a halftime lead, but was held scoreless in the second half as St. John Paul II broke a 39-game on-field losing streak with a 16-13 victory in the season finale for both teams.
Clements led 13-7 at halftime, but St. John Paul II outscored the Colts 9-0 in the second half to take its first win on the field since the 2013 season finale, a 6-0 win against Clements.
The Colts scored on their opening possession of the game as Cole Wales sneaked it in the end zone from 1 yard out. Clements extended its lead to 13-0 when Wales found Cade Hand on a 15-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.
At the time, it looked as if Clements would cruise to the win, but the St. John Paul II got right back in the game, quarterback Seth Brown scored on a 5-yard run to cut the lead to 13-7 with 2 minutes remaining in the first half.
The Falcons then scored on their opening possession of the second half, as Brown tossed an 18-yard touchdown pass to Gerard McCarron to give St. John Paul a 14-13 lead.
St. John Paul II scored its final points in the fourth quarter, as a Clements fumbled handoff was recovered by Wales in the end zone for a safety.
Jackson Bennington had two interceptions for the Colts’ defense.
Clements finished its season with the same record it had last year, 4-6.
