A state fire marshal, area firefighters and a Limestone County sheriff’s investigator have just found human remains in a home destroyed by fire this morning on Berzett Road.
Relatives of the woman who lived at the home told The News Courier both of her vehicles were at the home and they did not know her whereabouts. She did not have a cellphone. They said they feared she was home when the fire was reported about 10:45 a.m.
A neighbor said she noticed the fire in the 23000 block of Berzett but by the time she got to the scene, a mail carrier had stopped and called 911. She said she had intended to check on the resident but the fire was too intense.
The home was engulfed in fire when firefighters from East Limestone and Piney Chapel volunteer fire departments and Athens Fire Department arrived.
The home is in the 23000 block of Berzett Road, which is a narrow gravel road off Holt Road in eastern Limestone County.
The News Courier will have more information as it becomes available.
