A Wednesday night fire at a car repair shop in Athens may have started with an indoor vehicle fire, an official said Thursday.

Athens Fire Marshal James Hand said crews responded to T&T Auto Repair at 1104 Jefferson St., Athens, at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night. He said 10 to 12 firefighters responded to the scene, which was mostly contained to the garage area.

“It appears as though they may have been doing some work earlier in the day, and the fire may have started in one of the vehicles and spread from there,” Hand said. “One car was completely destroyed and the other had a lot of damage.”

Hand said firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to the rest of the building. He added they were on the scene for about two hours.

No injuries were reported. Hand said the precise cause remains under investigation.
