Some say it’s safer. Other say it’s easier. Whatever the reason, trunk-or-treat events have seen a rise in popularity that granted them a spot as one of many late October traditions for families and communities across the county. Here are some of the trunk-or-treat events available between now and November:

First Christian Church will kick off its third annual Trunk-or-Treat event at 5 p.m. behind U.G. White’s. Free hot dogs, drinks and candy will be provided.

“Our Christian Women’s Fellowship gets it together, but the whole congregation is involved,” said Janice Christopher, a member of the fellowship. Christopher said the church plans to have a little tent set up, and can’t wait to see all kids and adults that come.

Calvary Assembly will host its second annual event starting at 6:30 p.m at the Epicenter campus in Tanner. Tammy Cortez, secretary at Calvary, said she was blown away by the way their pastor goes all out to make sure kids have a great time.

This year, Cortez said visitors can expect carnival-type games, inflatables, popcorn and more.

Families can visit Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church on Alabama 99 in Athens from 7-8 p.m. for free hot dogs and trunk-or-treating.

The staff at Hospice of Limestone County is getting ahead of the game with a trunk-or-treat from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the Hospice parking lot. This is the event’s first year, but Lacy Beth McMunn, volunteer coordinator, said it’s something they hope to do every year.

“We chose 3:30-5:30 because it is on Halloween, so you have time to go here and then go trick-or-treating,” McMunn said.

Just a few blocks away, employees at The News Courier will be handing out candy to costumed visitors from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Some staff members will also be dressed up in costume for the event.

Families spending Halloween in Ardmore can check out Mable Hill Baptist Church’s Trunk-or-Treat event. The fun begins at 6 p.m.

At the same time, Salem Springs Baptist Church will host a community-wide Trunk-or-Treat event at the church on Alabama 99 in Elkmont.

Welleswood Venue is putting a new twist on the classic Trunk-or-Treat event  by lining cars along the circular drive and hosting a drive-thru Trunk-or-Treat event. Owner Lisa Elkins said it’s her first year doing this, but she has plenty of Halloween decorations ready for families to check out and expects parents and kids will appreciate the opportunity to get plenty of candy without ever leaving their vehicle.
