West Morgan rolls over Elkmont

West Morgan scored 20 points in the first quarter to set the tone against Elkmont and rolled to a 46-9 win on Friday.

It was yet another example of the Rebels’ powerful offense, as West Morgan has scored at least 35 points in every one of its wins this season.

West Morgan out-gained the Red Devils 367-169 including a 275-95 edge in rushing yards.

The Rebels got on the board first with a 45-yard touchdown pass from Gabe Peluso to Maurice Gray four minutes into the game.

Less than two minutes later Isaac Huguley made it 14-0 on a 4-yard run and four minutes after that, the Rebels upped the lead to 20-0 on a John Phillips 12-yard scamper.

Elkmont scored its only touchdown of the night early in the second quarter, as Davis Hobbs threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Cameron Davis and Juan Mendoza booted the extra point.

West Morgan upped its lead to 26-7 a few minutes later as Peluso tossed an 8-yard touchdown to Huguley, but Elkmont got the final points of the half on a safety, as a punt snap went out of the back of the end zone, making it 26-9.

West Morgan got three more second-half scores. Chance McClung scored on a 43-yard run, Huguley had a 9-yard gallop and Phillips scored on another 9-yard run in the closing moments of the fourth quarter.

Hobbs led Elkmont with 74 passing yards and a touchdown while Mark Pena and Davis combined to catch five balls for 74 yards.

Christian Green had eight solo tackles for Elkmont with one for loss while Peyton Lovell had five total tackles, with two tackles being for a loss.

Elkmont (1-8, 1-5 Class 3A, Region 8) will host Clements in its final region game next Friday.
