- This little lost fellow was found Monday near Tropic Tan in Athens. Business owner Shirley Kimbrough has been caring for the dog but hopes to find his owner soon.
For now, just call him Average Joe.
A little lost dog found near Tropic Tan in Athens is looking for his owner.
Business owner Shirley Kimbrough and her granddaughter, Hannah, found the dog wandering Monday evening outside the business at 409-C Washington St., next to the R.S.V.P. office. Although Kimbrough has posted the canine’s mug to her Facebook page, the owner apparently hasn’t seen it.
“He’s definitely somebody’s baby,” Kimbrough told The News Courier Tuesday afternoon. “He laid down when I told him to.”
Here’s what we know about the little fellow:
• He is black and white and has never been neutered;
• He may have been chasing girls at the time of his disappearance since he was dragging a long rope tie-out behind him;
• He has nice teeth; and
• He’s a good boy — even though he initially barked at the newspaper reporter. (To some, that makes him an even better boy.)
Over the protests of granddaughter Hannah, the dog stayed overnight in the laundry room of the tanning salon.
“He laid on his rug and didn’t fuss,” Kimbrough said.
While having his picture made for the newspaper Tuesday afternoon, the doggie ate a slice of Texas toast and kept looking for another. He got a DENTASTIX oral-care treat from neighbor Sally Marks. He even got to meet former state Rep. Henry White, R-Athens, who was passing by.
If you own the dog or know who does, call Kimbrough at 256-771-1174.
If she can’t find the owner soon, Kimbrough may keep the dog herself, she said.
