Local golfers will have a chance to have some fun on the links while supporting the Clements High School golf teams on Saturday, Oct. 21, at the first Clements High Fundraiser Golf Tournament.
The tournament will take place at the Joe Wheeler State Park golf course and will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
All proceeds from the tournament will go toward supporting the Clements High boys and girls golf teams, golf coach Dale Welborn said.
“This is the first time we’ve ever done something like this, so we’re getting our feet wet with it,” Welborn said. “This is for the golf team’s general operating expenses, such as tournament fees and things like that. If we do well enough (from the tournament), we’ll probably look at purchasing some equipment or something like that.”
The entry fee is $300 per team, and the winning team will receive a $600 prize. There will also be other prizes, depending on the number of entries the tournament receives.
Welborn said the tournament is also looking for hole sponsors and tournament sponsors. The main tournament sponsor is Cook’s Pest Control, but Welborn said other sponsors are needed.
“We have different level sponsorships — bronze, silver, gold and platinum,” Welborn said. “It’s $100 for a bronze sponsorship, $150 for silver, $200 for gold and $250 for platinum.”
In addition to paying tournament fees, Clements High School also has to purchase a two-month membership to Joe Wheeler to use the golf course for practices and home matches during the season, Welborn said.
