Fresenius Medical Care West, a dialysis center in Madison-annexed Limestone County, can now proceed with a planned $2.92 million expansion.
The state Health Planning and Development Agency on Monday issued a certificate of need. Fresenius, located at 29569 Huntsville-Browns Ferry Road, applied to the agency in the spring.
The expansion will add 10 hemodialysis stations, bringing the total number to 21. Plans for the project also include one isolation station. There are 15 staff members currently, and the expansion will add about an additional 10.
“We look forward to opening in mid-2018 to provide quality care to our growing dialysis community,” said Rose Wynn, Fresenius Kidney Care regional vice president.
Fresenius Medical Care West offers in-center and nocturnal (nighttime) dialysis. Nationally, Fresenius Kidney Care serves nearly 200,000 patients at more than 2,200 clinics and 1,600 hospitals.
