• After-school program. The after-school program from 3-5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at David’s Temple Church in Tanner accepts children ages 5-18. Homework assistants, tutoring and study hall are available. Van pickup is available to all Athens city schools except Athens High. Children from Tanner High can ride the bus. • Gospel singing. Brother Squires Parson will perform at Greenbrier Baptist Church at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 8. Event is free, but donations will be accepted. More information: 256-497-7349 or www.greenbrierbaptistchurch.net.
• Sermon series. Northside Church of Christ will host a series of speakers Oct. 8-11 at the following times: James Hinkle at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8; Bill Irby at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9; Jeff May at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10; and T.J. • Installation services. Peace Missionary Baptist Church will conduct installation services for Pastor-elect Jimmy Bailey at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8. The Rev. Corey Thomas and the New Beria M.B. Church will be in charge of worship services. The Round Island Creek Missionary Baptist Association will be in charge of the installation service. • Lecture series. The Curtis Coleman Center for Religious Studies and Ehtics at Athens State University will host Professor Russell Lemmons from Jacksonville State University at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, in McCandless Hall Auditorium on the ASU campus. This lecture is part of its continuing lecture series on the 500 years of Reformation history and Martin Luther. The lecture topic is “Luther’s Rome.” The event is free and open to the public.
• Chapel talk. The Curtis Coleman Center for Religious Studies and Ethics at Athens State University will host a chapel talk with Buddhist monk His Eminence Tulku Netu Rinpoche from 12-1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, in the Founders Hall Chapel. The talk will center on meditation and understanding Far East religious and cultural traditions. This event is open to the public.
• Revival. Round Island Creek M.B. Association will host a revival at 7 p.m. nightly Oct. 11-13. Speaker will be Pastor Carlos Williams of Orchard Knob Baptist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Various choirs will sing. More information: Keith Harris, 256-431-8891.
• Appreciation Day. Antioch Cumberland Presbyterian Church in America Church family will honor Pastor Robert L. Rice during worship service at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 22. The guest minister will be the Rev. Marcus Baker of Elkmont First Baptist Church.
• Friends and Family Day. Mount Nebo Missionary Baptist Church will host a Friends and Family Day service Sunday, Oct. 22. The 11 a.m. service will feature Pleasant Hill CP Church from Stella, Tennessee. The 2:30 p.m. service will feature Pastor Parks and Ole Mount Zion M.B. Church from Pulaski, Tennessee. Lunch will be served.
• Appreciation service. Athelstine Lodge No. 71 will host an appreciation service for Past Master Johnny Pryor at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28. The service will be held at Round Island Creek Missionary Baptist Association Mission Building, located at 1329 Lucas Ferry Road in Athens. More information: Mike Bailey, 256-874-0565.
