Toyota will invest $106 million in its Huntsville engine facility, officials announced Tuesday.
In a press conference, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama President David Fernandes said the investment would provide for a complete replacement of the plant’s four cylinder engine line.
The new line would enable the plant to improve power performance, efficiency and fuel economy. He explained it should make the cars “more fun to drive.”
“It creates a more flexible production environment to compete globally for new projects and respond quicker to market demands down the road,” he said. “This level of local investment speaks to the quality of our people and the quality of the partnerships we’ve built for many years across the state.”
Others present at Tuesday’s announcement included Gov. Kay Ivey, Madison County Commissioner Dale Strong, Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle and Madison Mayor Paul Finley.
