An Athens woman is facing a charge of chemical endangerment of a child after her infant son tested positive for oxycodone shortly after birth.

Kennady Elizabeth McBay, 24, of 18307 Menefee Road, is charged with one count of chemical endangerment of a child as well as bond revocation on a previous possession of controlled substance charge from May.

She is being held without bond in the Limestone County Jail.

On Sept. 17, McBay gave birth to the boy at a family member’s residence, and both she and the infant were admitted to the Athens-Limestone Hospital shortly thereafter. Tests showed McBay and her infant had traces of oxycodone in their urine. Hospital staff reported the findings to the Department of Human Resources, which notified Limestone County sheriff’s investigators.

Investigator Kristin King contacted McBay at the hospital and made arrangements with her to turn herself in after she was released. McBay turned herself in Monday.
