Local DAR, Athens State, host Constitution Week event

- Representatives with the John Wade Keyes Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution and Athens State University partnered for the annual Constitution Week celebration on Monday. The John Wade Keyes Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution joined Athens State University in hosting a Constitution Week celebration Monday at McCandless Hall on the Athens State campus.
Lunch was provided by the school, and an organist played patriotic music on the McCandless Hall organ.
The featured speaker was Dr. Tom Pieplow and the Pledge of Allegiance was performed by Lillian Pennington, president of the Capt. John Farrar Society C.A.R.
Special guests were Athens Mayor Ronnie Marks, ASDAR Regent Nancy Sturkie Folk, who delivered greetings, and Constance Connie Haynsworth Grund, ASDAR past regent and NSDAR vice president general.
The highlight of the event were costumed members of C.A.R. who rang the bells and then signed their loyalty to the representation of the United States Constitution. Representatives with Athens State University also announced scholarship recipients.
