West Limestone girls take third at cross country meet

The West Limestone girls cross country team had a good day at the Scottsboro Invitational Saturday, taking third place in the team competition out of 14 teams in the girls 1A-4A division.
The Wildcats had three runners finish in the top 10 of the race, with Cassidy Winter leading the way by finishing third in a time of 20:38.78. Katie Serrato finished fifth in a time of 21:17.65 while Avery Keenon was eighth with a time of 21:43.14.

Seventh graders Carlie Winter and Tessa Hardaway were the other two points-scoring runners for West Limestone.
Athens Bible also competed in the race, placing 11th in the team competition. Lillian Bradford was the top runner for Athens Bible, with a time of 24:50.63 with Jessie Green right behind in a time of 24:59.43. Tanner Ledbetter, Mallory Hall and Jolie Green also scored points for Athens Bible.
Tanner didn’t compete in the team competition, but Yami Mendoza, Breona Bivens and Keyera Jeanes ran as individuals.
Three local schools competed in the boys 1A-4A race, with Athens Bible finishing ninth in the team competition out of 21 teams.
Athens Bible’s Andrew Hall was the top local finisher, placing 13th with a time of 18:39.70. Nicolas Ulrich, Case Joel, Christopher Waddell and Grey Fortenberry also scored points for the Trojans.
West Limestone placed 14th in the team competition. Austin Abernathy was the Wildcats’ top finisher, placing 19th with a time of 19:06.60. Levi Jackson, Ethan Navas, Andrew Waters and Dante Scone were the other points-scoring finishers for West Limestone.

Tanner competed in the team competition on the boys side, placing 19th. Frankie Vicente, Richard Rosas, Angel Rubio, Manuel Felipe and Kevin Calderon scored points for the Rattlers.
James Clemens was the top-ranked local team in the 5A-7A race, finishing third as a team in the girls race and seventh in the boys race.
All five of James Clemens’ female runners finished in the top 38. Elizabeth Holcomb led the Jets in the girls race, finishing 10th in a time of 10:13.67. Jenna Shereyk placed 23rd, Sarah Shirley 31st, Sydney Freeman 34th and Samantha Burns 38th.
Athens High finished 16th in the team competition, with Sydney Johnson being the top Golden Eagles finisher, placing 59th in a time of 23:05.18. Ella Romine, Daisy Vicente, Sydney Lindsey and Aliana Lopez were the other points scorers for Athens.
James Clemens’ Nicholas Holcomb was the top local finisher in the boys 5A-7A race, placing 39th in a time of 18:07.36. Alex Shah, A.J. Sheldrick, Elliott Kliesner and Cannon Kvicala also scored points for the Jets.
Athens placed 16th in the boys competition, with Guy Greenhaw being the Eagles’ top finisher with a 50th place finish in a time of 18:25.00. Chase Irland, Joshua Simmons, Graham Hoover and Matthew Waldron also scored points for Athens.
