A prisoner at the Limestone County Jail has been charged with assault with bodily fluids in connection with an attack Monday on a jailer, records show.
Corey Denille Jefferson, 30, of 939 E. Strain Road, Athens, remained jailed Tuesday on the charge.
Sheila Vickers, who oversees bonding and visitation at the jail, filed a report about the incident Tuesday in Limestone County District Court.
Vickers said she entered cell block D-6 to speak to inmate Myndarius Rogers about being at the door when she brought female inmates down the hallway from court. Vickers said she had twice instructed Rogers to back away from the glass in the door but he failed to comply. She said she took the television remote from the table in the day room and had inmate Rogers step into the hall so she could speak to him. When Vickers reopened the door to send Rogers back in, inmate Jefferson was raising his voice telling Vickers it was not fair to punish the whole cell block for Rogers being in the window. Vickers said Jefferson became more irate and began cursing at her. She instructed him to step into the hallway and they began walking toward the booking department. As they passed housing control, Jefferson stopped walking, clenched his fist, cleared his throat and spat in Vickers’ face.
Officer Ron Andris, who witnessed the assault, tried to handcuff Jefferson but he resisted and was pushed against the wall. After Sgt. Jon Russell sprayed a short burst of pepper spray into Jefferson’s face, Andris was able to secure the handcuffs. Jefferson was then escorted to the booking room.
