UPDATED: Police continue to investigate death of pedestrian struck by train

The Athens Police Department is continuing to investigate the death of a pedestrian who died Friday after being struck by a train near Forrest Street.
Chief Floyd Johnson said the incident occurred at about 8 p.m. Emergency dispatch was relayed a call from CSX that the engineer had struck a person.
After a brief search, the victim’s body was found in the vicinity of Forrest and Clinton streets.
Police have identified the victim, but are withholding the name pending notification of next of kin. Limestone County Coroner Mike West said the victim was a 28-year-old white male.
