Limestone Countians who want to contribute to the educational needs of students in the community are once again invited to participate in the United Way’s Stuff the Bus campaign, which kicked off Aug. 25.

Through Sept. 29, a number of drop-off locations will be accepting new or gently used books. Donated materials will be distributed to K-12 students in Athens City Schools, Limestone County Schools, Lindsay Lane Christian Academy and Athens Bible School.

The books will be placed in libraries or classrooms or given to students as reading incentives. Each donated book contains a sticker that reads, “A gift from the generosity of the citizens of Athens-Limestone County and the United Way of Athens-Limestone County.”

For those who don’t have books to donate, United Way will accept monetary donations at its office at 419 S. Marion St., Athens. Books may also be dropped off there.

United Way’s goal is to place a book in the hands of each student in the community.

“We believe that reading is a vital part of every student’s life, whether they are reading to learn or simply reading for fun,” said a press release about the campaign. “By enabling every local student to have access to a variety of books, we are giving them the chance to gain knowledge, strengthen their brain and have fun.”
