The Natural Gas Fall Workshop held this month at Leak City will bring about 300 natural gas operators from across the United States to Athens for training.

The Athens Gas Department operates Leak City, a training facility on Sanderfer Road. Several gas-related agencies sponsor the workshop including the Alabama Natural Gas Association, Athens Utilities, Alabama Public Service Commission and American Public Gas Association as well as associations from Tennessee, Mississippi and Georgia.

Participants will learn about leak detection, corrosion, pipeline maintenance and natural gas fire prevention and response. While in Athens, participants support the local economy by staying in local hotels and exploring the city in the evenings.

The workshop is Sept. 11-14.
