- Elkmont's Hunter Pitman crosses the goal line after catching a 31-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter of the Red Devils' game against Ardmore.
Ardmore used a stingy defense and just enough offense to get past rival Elkmont on Friday night.
The Tigers spotted Elkmont a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, but overcame that deficit with two second-quarter scores and smothered the Red Devils in the second half in front of a packed house at Boss Hill Stadium.
Elkmont jumped into the lead when Davis Hobbs threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Hunter Pitman on fourth and 20 with 4:36 remaining in the first quarter.
Ardmore took the lead less than a minute into the second quarter when Austin Winton scored on a 1-yard touchdown run and Joe Neal Douthit threw the 2-point conversion pass to Mack Hughes.
The Tigers struck again midway through the second quarter when Scrimsher scored on a 6-yard run. Saul Rodriguez made the extra point.
That was all the offense Ardmore needed, as the Tigers defense made the lead stand up, holding Elkmont to just 114 yards of total offense in the game.
Ardmore was led offensively by Winton, who rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. Quarterback Noah Barnett completed seven passes for 88 yards. Cameron Davis led the Elkmont rushing attack with 59 yards on 21 carries.
Darius Davis led Ardmore defensively with 7.5 tackles, including two tackles for loss. Elkmont’s Christian Green and Luke Claunch combined for 15.5 tackles and four tackles for loss.
Ardmore (1-0) hosts Brooks next Friday while Elkmont (0-2) travels to Lexington as both teams open up region play.
