MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — Forecasters have issued a flash flood watch for southwestern Alabama as Harvey begins what’s expected to be a slow trek away from Texas.

The National Weather Service says 4 inches to 6 inches of rain are possible from noon Tuesday through Thursday evening, and that could bring flooding.

The watch area includes the western Florida Panhandle and coastal Mississippi.

Forecasters say Harvey will remain a tropical storm as it moves inland and takes a northeastward track. They say northern Alabama could receive rain and thunderstorms associated with the system later in the week.

The weather service says tornadoes will be possible in the Tennessee Valley starting Thursday night through Friday night. Rainfall totals are expected to range from 2 inches to 4 inches, making flooding possible.
