Elkmont had an early lead but couldn’t make it stand up in a 40-20 loss to Addison on Friday night. The Red Devils opened up a newly renovated Boss Hill Stadium with a spirited first half, but were outscored 24-6 in the second half as Addison pulled away.
The evening began with a short ceremony on the field 20 minutes before the game, as the school dedicated the stadium. The stadium project included a new home stands and press box, new restrooms and concession area, new LED lights and a new visitors locker room.
Elkmont’s players seemed to be fired up to play in front of a huge crowd at the new stadium, and jumped out to a first half lead.
The Red Devils opened the scoring late in the first quarter on a 32-yard touchdown pass from Davis Hobbs to Hunter Pitman. Juan Mendoza added the extra point.
Addison responded early in the second quarter with a 7-yard touchdown run by Benjamin Robinson. Gage Gilliland ran in the two-point conversion.
It took Elkmont less than a minute to respond, as Cameron Davis broke loose for an 85-yard touchdown run to give the Red Devils a 14-8 lead.
However, it was all Addison from that point on. The Bulldogs, ranked No. 6 in 1A, scored with less than 3 minutes remaining in the first half on a 3-yard run by William Guthrie and took a 16-14 lead when Robinson ran in the two-point conversion.
Addison tacked on another score in the third quarter on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Gilliland to Logan Wilkins and Robinson’s two-point conversion run. The Bulldogs scored early in the fourth quarter to take a 32-14 lead when Robinson ran in from three yards out.
Elkmont tried to get back in the game with a touchdown on a 3-yard touchdown run from Davis, but Addison closed the scoring with 5:57 remaining in the game with an 11-yard touchdown run from Braxton Preuitt.
Elkmont will host county rival Ardmore next week at Boss Hill Stadium. It will be Ardmore’s first game of the season.
