An argument over a man wearing boxer briefs led to a fight and the discharge of a shotgun inside a residence Wednesday night in Limestone County, an official said.

Christopher Draper, 32, of 21395 Tillman Mill Road, Elkmont, was arrested on charges of reckless endangerment and second-degree domestic violence (menacing), said Deputy Stephen Young, public information officer for the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office.

Draper is being held in the Limestone County Jail. Bail has not been set and additional charges are pending, Young said.

Around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Limestone County Sheriff’s Deputy Martin Evans responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 21000 block of Tillman Mill Road.

According to witnesses at the residence, Draper, who had been drinking all day, had gotten into a fight with his mother’s boyfriend for walking around in boxer shorts in shared areas of the residence where Draper and his girlfriend also live. Draper allegedly attacked the victim several times and was subdued each time, then allowed to get back up. Draper then allegedly went into his bedroom with his mother, and she locked the door. She said Draper picked up a .410-gauge shotgun, kicked open the door and pointed it at the victim, stating “I’ll kill you.” She told Evans she stepped in front of the shotgun, then grabbed the barrel and pointed it at the ceiling, at which time Draper fired the gun before fleeing the residence.

While Evans was still on the scene, Draper and another subject arrived at the residence. He claimed the victim had “jumped” him. Draper appeared intoxicated. Evidence at the scene was consistent with the initial report made by the victim and witness. Additional charges are expected after officials have a chance to interview Draper when he is sober, Young said.
