- Whaley and all his friends at the Athens-Limestone Animal Shelter would look happier if they had a forever home and someone to love them. He and many other cats and dogs at the shelter will be available for half-price ($55) during the pet adoption drive from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at the shelter on U.S. 72 East in Athens. The event is part of a nationwide adoption drive called “Clear the Shelters.”
Dogs and cats were getting baths at the Athens-Limestone Animal Shelter Thursday and Friday in preparation for Saturday’s half-price adoption drive.
“We’re really excited,” Shelter Director Priscilla Blenkinsopp said Thursday afternoon.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the shelter at 1701 U.S. 72 East in Athens, which is between the Russell Stover candy store and Preston’s Western Wear and behind the Limestone Veterinary Clinic. Hundreds of shelters across the country, including the one in Athens, will hold the “Clear the Shelters” events to help find loving homes for animals in need.
This is a good opportunity to get a good deal on a pet that will repay you a thousand times over.
Saturday’s adoption price for eligible cats and dogs is only $55 and covers everything — vaccinations and spaying or neutering. The usual fee for a shelter animal is $110, Blenkinsopp said.
All of the cats and dogs age 6 months and older and listed for adoption on the shelter’s website — http://limestonepets.org/website/adopt.php — are available for adoption at the event, she said.
