A Madison man died Sunday from injuries received in a one-vehicle crash on U.S. 72 near Stanley Street in Athens, an official said.

Athens Police Capt. Trevor Harris said 37-year-old Fran Le’Paul Poole was driving east on 72 when his 2007 Ford Edge left the road at about 6:30 p.m. The vehicle flipped several times before coming to rest in the parking lot of the former Collins Supply store.

Harris said witnesses indicated no other vehicles were involved.

Poole, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle.

Paramedics quickly transported Poole to Athens-Limestone Hospital, where he later died.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
