NORTH COURTLAND, Ala. (AP) — A city clerk in Alabama has been suspended without pay for insubordination.

The Decatur Daily reports that North Courtland Mayor Riely Evans Sr. informed City Clerk Tabatha Bailey of her suspension Friday, according to town attorney Thomas Denham, who was present at the meeting.

Denham said he did not know Bailey’s future status with the city. No details were provided as to the alleged insubordination.

Bailey told the newspaper she had no comment on the matter, and Evans refused to comment.

A special city council meeting is set Wednesday, with an expected executive session to discuss the matter.

Bailey replaced Della Taylor as the city clerk when Evans won a runoff election in October.
