Two people were charged Tuesday in connection with the murder of an Athens man, court records show.

Terry Dale Amerson, 27, of 712 Horton St., Athens, and Kandes Elizabeth Lambert, 27, also of 712 Horton St., were charged with capital murder and robbery. After being booked, both were transferred to the Limestone County Jail.

The court complaint said the victim, 27-year-old Brenton C. Gatlin, was shot once in the head. The complaint said Gatlin’s death was caused “during the course of committing a theft of U.S. currency.”

The incident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. at the residence at 712 Horton St. Following the shooting, Gatlin was taken to Athens-Limestone Hospital where he died a short time later.

Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson will hold a press conference on the case this afternoon.
