Girl Scout Troop 469 of the East Limestone area will host a Back-2-School Drive from 2-4 p.m. today at the Dollar General on the corner of East Limestone and Capshaw roads. Slow Simmer Sundays

High Cotton Arts will host “Mind, Body. And Soul. Creative Journey.” as part of the Slow Simmer Sundays series, from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, July 23, at High Cotton Arts, 103 W. Washington St. in downtown Athens. Participants are invited to relieve stress with light yoga, meditation and a therapeutic watercolor session with artist Sonya Gordon. American Legion fundraiser

A fundraiser for American Legion Post 49 will take place from 4-9 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, and Wednesday, July 26, at Krystal on U.S. 72 East in Athens. The restaurant will give the American Legion 50 percent of sales if a customer has an American Legion flyer. Flyers are available at the American Legion on 124 Cloverleaf Drive in Athens. Comedy night

The second annual “Greg Screws: Yes I’ll Comment” event begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 28, at Athens State University’s McCandless Hall. Greg Screws will share hilarious news stories and pictures, questionable social media posts and skits that reflect life in our area. Southside Church of Christ’s Youth Vocal Ministry will perform before the CPDA-sponsored event at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 and available at City Hall or online at www.eventbrite.com/e/greg-screws-yes-ill-comment-tickets-36271900230. Proceeds benefit the City of Athens Relay for Life team and Athens Arts League, which is allocating its portion to the Scout Music House renovation project.

Athens High freshman orientation

Athens High School freshman orientation will be from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday, July 30, at the school. All freshman and parents are encouraged to attend.

Athens High MacBook pick up

Athens High School students should pick up their MacBook computers from 5-7 p.m. as follows: Last names “A-M” on Tuesday, Aug. 1 and last names “N-Z” on Thursday, Aug. 3. New students enrolled after May 23 should pick up computers between 10-11 a.m. or 5-6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8. The student and a parent must be present. Cost is $50 per student — $40 per student if more than one student in a household is attending AHS or Athens Middle School. Fee is $25 for students who qualify for free or reduced-priced lunches. Students will be able to access their schedules Friday, Aug. 4.

Blood drive

The American Red Cross will host blood drives throughout Limestone County during the month of August. Black and Gold pageant

The Miss Black and Gold pageant will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at Cedar Hill Elementary School gymnasium. The event will benefit Montana Worley, a teenager who is fighting cancer. Limestone County Master Gardener classes begin Thursday, Aug. 10. Classes meet for 14 weeks from 5-9 p.m. each Thursday evening. Space is limited. Fundraising banquet

The Women’s Resource Center will host speaker Pam Tebow at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at its annual fundraising banquet at the Limestone County Event Center. Stability class

East Limestone Senior Center will host their SilverSneakers stability class from 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. every Thursday at 25820 Nick Davis Road. SilverSneakers is a group exercise class designed to keep participants safe on their feet. The class will include standing and walking exercises designed to decrease the risk of falling. Writer’s Group. Writer’s Group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 27, at First Baptist Church Family Life Center. All levels of writers, from beginners to published authors are welcome. Manuscript readings are encouraged. Receive thoughtful comments and writing tips through regular programs.

Limestone Farmers Co-op. Limestone Farmers Co-op will meet at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, at the Tennessee Valley Substation in Belle Mina for the annual membership meeting. The past year’s business will be presented and two board members will be elected. A meal will be served.

Dixie Stitchers. The Athens Dixie Stitchers will hold a guild meeting Thursday, Aug. 3, at Friendship United Methodist Church on Lucas Ferry Road. Social time begins at 6 p.m. and the meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. The program is making finger pincushions.
