- This is a 2017 rendering of a 108,960-square-foot building in the SouthPoint Industrial Park in Huntsville-annexed Limestone County.
One of area’s largest industrial parks will soon get a little larger in hopes of luring a new industry and more jobs to the area.
The Hollingsworth Companies on Tuesday broke ground on its sixth industrial building project in the SouthPoint Industrial Park. It’s the second facility started within the last two months.
The park is located in Huntsville-annexed Limestone County and was designed for companies that support the Redstone Arsenal, Army Contracting Command, Marshall Space Flight Center and the Southern automotive corridor.
Last September, SouthPoint tenant HDT Global announced it would reinvest $4 million and hire 120 new workers as part of a Huntsville expansion. The company manufactures temporary shelter systems for deployed military personnel.
The Woodbridge Group, based in Mississauga, Canada, is one of the park’s newest tenants. The company plans to hire about 164 employees for a $17.3 million manufacturing facility.
Woodbridge makes foam seating for cars, which will be manufactured here before being shipped to another company to be covered in fabric. From there, the seat would go to an automotive assembly plant.
Tom Hill, president of the Limestone County Economic Development Association, said he was happy to see another building going up at the industrial park, which is accessed via Bibb Garrett Road to Endeavor Way.
“The park has great visibility from Interstate 65 and Interstate 565 and has all utilities in place including high speed fiber,” Hill said. “We are pleased to continue our long term relationship with Hollingsworth and look forward to helping bring occupants to the building.”
A release from Hollingsworth said the 108,960-square-foot building, with a 32-foot clear height and LED lighting, is suitable for warehouse or manufacturing space.
Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle said the new addition would be a “welcome addition” to Huntsville’s available inventory.
“The timeline for industrial development projects is becoming quicker because companies want to be in business as fast as they can,” he said. “Clearly there is demand in Huntsville for industrial facilities and we are sure that this trend will continue as more businesses learn Huntsville is an ideal location to make them successful.”
In addition to the Alabama projects, The Hollingsworth Companies recently completed construction of an industrial building in Andersonville, Tennessee, and started an industrial park expansion in Mocksville, North Carolina.
“We are continuing to see an improvement in the real estate market as government regulations have been rolled back,” said Joe Hollingsworth, chief executive officer of The Hollingsworth Companies. “This improvement is all a result of increased manufacturing numbers and continued confidence in the economic recovery.”
