A man accidentally shot in the neck Sunday at a home in the 26,000 block of Johnson Lane, off Alabama 251, was listed in critical condition Monday afternoon in Huntsville Hospital.

Limestone County sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Stephen Young said the victim’s nephew was showing him a new pistol when the weapon fired. The bullet went through the nephew’s hand and into the victim’s neck. The victim was flown by MedFlight helicopter to the hospital, where he was in the surgical intensive-care unit Monday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

It is not known if the nephew received medical attention for his injury.

Young said when dispatchers received the call, it was reported as an accident. After investigators arrived at the scene, they determined that to be the case, the deputy said.
