A convicted sex offender accused of failing to carry his identification as required by law has been charged with violating the state sex offender law, an official said.
Investigator Steve Croley told The News Courier Monday Deputy Jonathan Hardiman arrested Thomas Duane Davis, 39, of 22326 Holt Road, Athens, during a traffic stop Friday. In his incident report on the arrest, Hardiman wrote he was on patrol that afternoon when a gray sport utility vehicle passed him at a high rate of speed on Piney Chapel Road at Duggar Road. He pulled over the SUV driver, Davis, who did not have his ID.
Under the rules of the state Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, a convicted sex offender is required to have his or her ID available at all times.
He was released from the Limestone County Jail after posting bond of $15,000.
