An Limestone County man was arrested Sunday on a charge of first-degree robbery after holding up an Athens convenience store clerk, an official said.
David Earl Freeman, 51, of Owens Apartments on Tillman Mill Road, entered the Marathon gas station at U.S. 31 and Forrest Street at about 2:25 p.m. Johnson said Freeman had a blue bandana around his face and told the female clerk to give him all the money and her car keys.
Freeman, who had his hand under his shirt, indicated he had a gun, Johnson said. The clerk gave Freeman money but not the keys to her car.
After Freeman left the store, she called police and gave a description of Freeman and his direction of travel. Sgt. Daniel McNatt found Freeman moments later at Athens Bible School’s baseball field and he was taken into custody without incident.
After being booked at the Athens Police Department, Freeman was taken to the Limestone County Jail. Bail had not been set as of Monday afternoon.
