Barbecue fundraiser
The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office will host a benefit barbecue and silent auction for cancer patient Breanna Smith starting at 11 a.m. Friday, June 16, at the Sheriff’s Rodeo Arena on Alabama 99. Tickets for lunch and dinner plates are $12 each and include a 1/2 barbecue chicken, baked beans, roll, slaw, drink and dessert. Tickets can be purchased at the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office. Summer concert series
Trippin’ Dixie will be the featured entertainment Friday, June 16, for Singing on the Square at the Limestone County Courthouse. Show begins at 6 p.m. Rain location is the Vietnam Veterans of America building at 17915 W. Elm St., Athens. Bring lawn chair.
Ardmore Tractor Pull
The Ardmore, Tennessee, Lions Club will host its ninth annual tractor pull Friday, June 16, and Saturday, June 17, at John Barnes Park, 26425 Hamlett St., Ardmore, Tennessee. Tickets are $10; kids 6 and under admitted free. Proceeds benefit Ardmore Lions Club. More information: 256-468-4950.

Swamp Johns fundraiser
Owens Volunteer Fire Department will host a Swamp Johns Dinner from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, June 17, at the Sheriff’s Rodeo Arena on Alabama 99. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10. Meal includes fish, chicken or shrimp, French fries, slaw, hush puppies, tea and a dessert. The fire department is also seeking donations of bottles of water. More information: 256-777-7981.
Dalton Scott Memorial Trail Ride
The Cowboyn’ for the Son chapter of Cowboys for Christ will present its second annual Dalton Scott Memorial Trail Ride at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 17, at Rails to Trails in Elkmont. Attendees should park trailers and ride from the north or south end of the trail, then meet at noon in downtown Elkmont for lunch and activities. 4-H summer class
The Limestone County Extension Office will host a class on how to make knotted fleece blankets from 1-3 p.m. on Monday, June 19. Children will get to make a blanket to take home and also make blankets that will be donated to children in the community. Cost is $5 per child, which covers cost of supplies. VVA spaghetti day
The Vietnam Veterans of America will sponsor all-you-can-eat spaghetti meals from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Monday, June 19, at the VVA building at 17915 W. Elm St. Cost is $7 and includes coleslaw or salad, garlic bread, dessert and drink. Dine in or carry out. Funds used for scholarships for local students. Large orders asked to call ahead. Chicken stew
The American Legion will host its monthly chicken stew from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, June 20. Price is $5 for eat-in or $5 per quart for carryout. Eat-in price includes stew, drink and dessert. Carry-out desserts are $1 each. Containers also provided for carryouts. Free delivery within Athens city limits or homebound. Kiddie Carnival
Openings ceremonies at the Athens Lions Club Kiddie Carnival will be 6 p.m. Thursday, June 29, at 309 E. Forrest St., Athens. Weather permitting, the carnival will be open from 6:30-9:30 p.m. each Thursday, Friday and Saturday from June 29 through Aug. 5. Each ride requires a 50-cent ticket. Mental health fundraiser
The Foundation for Mental Health in North Alabama presents Barbecue and Blues 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 20, at City View Farms in Decatur. Musical guest will be Microwave Dave and the Nukes. Stability class
SilverSneakers stability class will be from 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. every Thursday at East Limestone Senior Center at 25820 Nick Davis Road. SilverSneakers is a group exercise class designed to keep participants safe on their feet. The class will include standing and walking exercises designed to decrease the risk of falling. Summer reading program
The Ardmore Public Library will host Super Scientist Richi at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, as part of its summer reading program for children 12 and under. Snowbird will be featured at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, and Beauty and the Beast will be featured at 10 a.m. Monday, July 10. This year’s theme is “Build a Better World” and is sponsored by Dollar General and First National Bank.
