BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — The office manager of an Alabama surgical practice who pleaded guilty to stealing from her employer has been sentenced to more than three years in prison and ordered to repay nearly $1 million.

Anntwine Moss of Bessemer, 51, was sentenced to three years and five months Wednesday for five counts of wire fraud and four counts of tax evasion, acting U.S. Attorney Robert O. Posey said in news release. Moss pleaded guilty last year to stealing from Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery of Alabama between 2006 and 2013.

Moss also was ordered to pay $987,375 in restitution to the practice and to forfeit the same amount to the government as proceeds of illegal activity, Posey said.

According to federal court documents, Moss used her authority as office manager to write unauthorized checks to herself and to her boyfriend, 43-year-old Anthony T. Michael, of Jackson, Mississippi; make unauthorized direct deposits into her account, and use the company’s credit cards for unauthorized personal purchases.

Michael pleaded guilty in March to conspiracy, bank fraud and aggravated identity theft. Sentencing is set for July 12 in U.S. District court.
