Sheriff’s deputy beaten while searching for sex offender

MIDFIELD, Ala. (AP) — A Jefferson County sheriff’s deputy has been hospitalized after he was beaten while seeking a sex offender.
AL.com reports that deputies acting on a Crime Stoppers tip about a wanted sex offender went to a Midfield home Tuesday morning to arrest him on a felony warrant. Chief Deputy Randy Christian says that deputies were confronted by a 19-year-old man once inside. The man knocked a deputy to the floor, leaving him with a bloodied face and head.

Christian says the wanted person was not home.
The suspect is in custody, but his name hasn’t been released as charges are pending.
Christian says the deputy was able to walk to an ambulance and his injuries are not life-threatening.
