NORTH COURTLAND, Ala. (AP) — The North Courtland mayor says he’s giving up six months of his salary to the town to help provide needed resources.
Mayor Riley Evans Sr. says $6,000 of his salary will help fund local law enforcement and other day-to-day operations in the town.
Evans tells WAAY-TV that while the town is staying afloat and keeping up to date on paying its bills — the town needs additional resources. With the mayor’s donation, Police Chief Spencer Butler says he hopes to buy matching uniforms for his officers and body cameras.
Evans says they’re going to try and begin the donation in June and have it run through November. However, they said the town is still working out the details.
