HUNTSVILLE — Playing in their first regional softball tournament since 2012, Clements fell into a hole it couldn’t climb out of Thursday morning against Colbert Heights.
The Wildcats scored 12 runs in the first three innings on their way to a 15-3 victory over Clements. With the loss, Clements fell into the loser’s bracket of the Class 3A tournament at the Kiwanas Sportsplex.
The Colts beat New Hope 5-1 Thursday afternoon.
Against Colbert Heights, the Wildcats added a pair of runs in the third inning when Mary Gordon drove home Lele Anderson and Sallie Ball singled to drive home Gordon. The pair of runs pulled Clements within 12-3, but another Colbert Heights scoring spree in the top of the fifth ended the game early.
Kylie Robinson hit a solo home run and Katelyn Hand drove home two more runs to give the Wildcats a 15-3 lead. Clements was unable to muster another rally and the game ended in the bottom of the fifth because of the 10-run rule after five innings.
Gordon and Ball each had two hits and an RBI to lead Clements while Anderson, Trent, Abby Craig, Cayla Dendy and Averee King each had hits.
Wilson 9, West Limestone 0
Wilson used a big second inning to beat West Limestone 9-0 at the 4A bracket of the North Regional softball tournament Thurday. Leading 1-0 after the first inning, Wilson pounded out six runs in the second inning to take a commanding 7-0 lead for most of the game.
Baily Browning and Elaina Ingle had West Limestone’s only hits in the shutout. West Limestone beat Madison Academy in the loser’s bracket Thursday afternoon.
