An alert neighbor is being credited with helping Athens Police apprehend a burglary suspect, an official said.
Athens Police Capt. Trevor Harris said the first burglary happened between May 4 and 7 in the 1400 block of Seventh Avenue, while the second occurred Sunday in the 800 block of Camelot Drive.
Harris said Sgt. Brett Constable responded to both crime scenes and developed Da’Quan Epps, 19, of 1408 Seventh Ave., as a suspect, thanks to assistance from a neighbor.
Lt. Dusty Meadows and Officer Paul Richey accompanied Constable to Epps’ residence late Sunday and recovered stolen property after an interview.
Harris said Epps was arrested and taken to the Athens Police Department, where he was charged with two counts of third-degree burglary. He was then transferred to the Limestone County Jail.
Harris said both cases remain open while detectives continue to search for more stolen property.
