Documents will be shredded on site and attendees can request to watch their items shred. Hard drives will also be destroyed on site.
“Residents and small businesses are encouraged to attend the event and take advantage of this opportunity to protect your identity and the environment with several free services,” said a release about the event.
The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department will also be accepting both over-the-counter and prescription drugs (pill and liquid) for safe disposal after the event. Non-perishable food, clothing and small household items will be collected to benefit the Downtown Rescue Mission, a BBB accredited charity. BBB staff will provide expert advice and tips for identity theft protection.
“Our goal is to help our community minimize their chances of having their identity stolen with professional document shredding and hard drive destruction, provide a safe and environmentally friendly way to dispose of unused drugs and electronics, and give back to the community by supporting a local charity,” said Tricia Pruitt, BBB regional vice president.
Tennessee Valley Electronic Recycling will accept a wide range of electronics for recycling for free. There will be a $10 each charge for large back TVs and monitors.
All components of shred day will be in a quick and easy drive-thru setup. Those with items will not need to leave their vehicles.
