Twenty-year-old Kaileigh Tanner and her boyfriend were trapped in their unit as flames came through the front door, so they leashed their two dogs and headed to the balcony. Tanner jumped off, and her boyfriend lowered the dogs down. Her pet lizard, bearded dragon, perished in the blaze, however.

Mobile Fire-Rescue Department Spokesman Steve Huffman says no injuries were reported in either building affected by the fire. Each building has at least 10 units. The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known.

The apartment complex will make other units available to affected residents within a few weeks.
