A bit of sparkle and shine will be coming to the Publix-anchored Eastside Junction Shopping Center in Athens this summer as Osborne’s Jewelers moves to the U.S. 72 East neighborhood.

Developer Bill Ming this week confirmed crews are preparing the interior of the jewelry store’s new location in an outparcel on the center’s east side. The store will be next to new restaurant Marco’s Pizza and could be open as early as July.

“The new location will incorporate the newest ideas and the most up-to-date features of the jewelry industry,” said owner Everett Osborne. “Our customers will be very pleased with the convenient easy access location. Fresh new product lines will be added in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.”

Ming said discussions to move the store “go back a couple of years,” but became more serious a few months ago. After Osborne’s made the decision, the store began hosting moving sales at its Jefferson Street location.

Tiffany Shireman, managing partner at Osborne’s, said she and the staff are excited about the move. The Osborne’s store on Jefferson Street has been there since 1987.

“Everything is growing east and it’s a going to be a great opportunity to be around for another 30 years,” she said.

When asked what Osborne’s would bring to the shopping center, Ming said it represents co-tenancy, or an effort to bring diverse businesses to one center. Other outparcels include Buffalo Wild Wings, AT&T and Cole Dental.

“You want to be able to meet all the needs of consumers,” he said. “The anchor, which is Publix, drives most of the traffic out there, but you also have Pet Depot and all these other tenants.”

The new outparcels at Eastside Junction are now 85 percent leased, Ming said, adding he’s in talks with another retailer.
